Getting your RV ready for winter is vital in any RV ownership. After using your RV for the season, you’ll want to protect the plumbing system in case of cold temperatures over the winter while your RV is in storage. Below, we will walk you through how to winterize your RV’s plumbing system with these easy RV tips. Learn how to winterize your RV below.
Drain the Tanks, Low Points, and Water Heater
Start by disconnecting your RV from any water supply and draining any liquid from the holding tanks. Additionally, you will want to drain your water heater and open the low points to allow those to drain as well.
Bypass Water Heater
Next, you need to bypass your water heater. Most RVs make those pretty easy to manage, and you can simply close off the valves to the heater so that it instead reroutes through the system. Once you have bypassed the water heater again, check to ensure there’s no water in any of your tanks.
Connect the Antifreeze to the Water Pump
The next step is to connect your antifreeze to your RV’s water pump and prime the pump.
Run the Antifreeze Through the System
Now it’s time to start up your water pump and open all the faucets to run antifreeze through the entire plumbing system. Make sure all of the sinks are open indoors and out and that you run the antifreeze through until the liquid comes out pink or whatever color the antifreeze may be. Don’t forget to do this for your shower as well.
Flush the Toilet and Add Antifreeze
Next, you’re going to flush any of the toilets in the RV and dump antifreeze into them to prevent freezing of the black tank.
