One of the most popular places to kayak in Michigan is along the gorgeous Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore! The pristine shoreline and stunning rock formations make this an incredible place to paddle! Located in Munising, there are plenty of beautiful spots to make this a truly unforgettable trip! You can choose to plan your own trip, or participate in a guided tour!

There are numerous camping options available to suit any sort of trip you’d like to take! There are several backcountry camping options along the lakeshore with a permit, so you can set up camp if you’d like a multi-day kayak trip! There are also several campsites over three campgrounds, all of which are rustic with no hook-ups or electricity, so you’ll get to exercise those dry camping skills! These are available on a first-come, first-served basis! There are three different campgrounds within the park, the Hurricane River Campground, Twelvemile Beach Campground, and Little Beaver Lake Campground!

Munising Tourist Park Campground


This gorgeous campground sits right on Lake Superior and features 127 campsites that feature scenic views, 26 of which have full hookups, and 78 with water and electric! It is near Grand Island, which is a must-see stop on this kayak trip! Make reservations at their website!

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore


Another fantastic national lakeshore sits on the shores of Lake Michigan and is another stunning sight to see! Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is amazing to hike along and view the gorgeous blue water, and kayaking along the dunes provides a great view from a different perspective!

Sleeping Bear Dunes - Platte River Campground


This lovely campground is open year-round, and features back-in and pull-through sites, electrical hookups, and a dump station! This campground is fantastic as it is nestled near two inland lakes, and sits on the Platte river, which is another great and recommended kayaking experience, making this the ultimate kayaking getaway! D.H. Day Campground


This is also a lovely rustic campground, though it is tents-only and does not offer hookups. However, the close proximity to the lake and dunes make this campground a fantastic choice for a kayaking excursion! Make your reservations here!

Port Austin


Located in the tip of the thumb of Michigan’s lower peninsula, Port Austin is a lovely village that sits on Lake Huron and has plenty of fun things to do. Trust us, you won't regret a visit to this perfect vacation spot! There are great opportunities for a fun and unique kayaking experience! There are three great trails you can take, with the Turnip Rock Trail being the most popular!

Turnip rock is a unique and wondrous rock formation that stands several feet tall out of the water! It is a truly amazing sight to see! The trail is only open from March to mid November, and is recommended for those with some kayaking experience! It is well worth the trip with plenty of other rock formations and beautiful sights along the way!

Albert E Sleeper State Park


This highly-rated state park features 723 acres of forests, beaches, and dunes, which makes it a fun place to stay for a kayaking trip! It has electrical hookups, modern restrooms, and a dump station, and plenty of opportunities to get in a few good hikes! You can also enjoy hunting, mountain biking, metal detecting and more! Duggans Family Campground


This is another great campground that sits on Lake Huron and is close to all the fun! It is the perfect spot for RVers, and features a laundry room, pool, game room, and has a host of fun activities!

Kalamazoo River, Saugatuck


Saugatuck is a fantastic town that sits near the shores of Lake Michigan! It's a wonderful town for tourism, with plenty of shops and activities to experience! It also sits on Kalamazoo Lake and the Kalamazoo River, which runs out to Lake Michigan! It is a wonderful and scenic paddle along the river, and is close to all the fun of wonderful Saugatuck, for a fun and eventful trip!

Holland State Park


Unfortunately there are no nearby campgrounds close to Saugatuck, but Holland State park is about a 20 minute drive away is is a lovely choice to stay! Try to take a trip out to the lovely lighthouse, enjoy some fishing, or lounge on the beach! With full-hookup sites, you’ll be comfortable! Make your reservation here!
