Camping Recipe: Dutch Oven Mac & Cheese

Ingredients

  • 2 c. elbow macaroni
  • 2 c. water
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 4 c. cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1-2 tbsp mustard
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • 5 oz bag Kettle Brand Jalapeño chips

Instructions:

  1. Start by building a strong fire and placing around 20 coals in the fire to heat.
  2. Once the cold or hot, create a small bed of eight for the base of your Dutch oven.
  3. Add the macaroni, water, butter, and salt to the Dutch oven, and then cover with the lid.
  4. Place 12 coals on the top of the lid to help heat the ingredients through. Cook for approximately 10 minutes until the pasta is al dente.
  5. Remove the lid of the Dutch oven with a pair of heat, resistant gloves or tongs and set it aside.
  6. Carefully stir in the shredded cheese, mustard, and garlic powder until thoroughly combined.
  7. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  8. Crush the jalapeño chips to create a crumble for the top of the macaroni. Serve hot.
